MEYPRO® Guar Products for the Paper Industry

Guar gum is the principal component of the seed of the guar plant. This plant has been cultivated for thousands of years in India and Pakistan mainly for food and feedstuffs. Guar has a galactomannan content of between 81-85% by weight. The nature of guar means that in aqueous solutions it has more available hydrogen bonds with cellulose than starches.

Danisco have recognised the potential use for this renewable resource in paper manufacture and by processing it have developed a series of MEYPRO products to suit different applications:-

MEYPRO-BOND - Wet End Addition

- Cationic and Amphoteric versions are available.
For improved paper strength and retention at low rates of addition.

MEYPROID - Wet End Addition

- Anionic (and Non-Ionic) versions are available.
For improved paper strength. Increase effect of cationic wet strength aids and therefore addition may be reduced.

MEYPRO-FILM - Surface Treatment (Anionic)

Forms a film on the surface of the paper so improves surface strength and reduces porosity. Resistance to solvents, grease and oil is increased.

MEYPROID SF - Surface Treatment (Non-Ionic)

Improves printability of graphical uncoated papers. When applied by size press strength properties of filter papers can be significantly improved.  

MEYPRO-COAT - Surface Treatment

Phosphated type - Regulation of the viscosity and improvement of water retention.

Cationic type - Increase of coating volume and improvement of base stock coverage.
